Food For Thought

Foodologist.co.uk is the online version of The Foodologist magazine, an exciting new media publication that was launched in March 2010.
Our aim is to enable you to read The Foodologist in whichever format you’d prefer – whether paper-based or via computer or mobile phone.

For all advertising and subscription enquiries contact Duncan Williams dwilliams@independentlocals.com

Duncan Williams is an established force within British independent publishing. A former employee of Irish tycoon Sir Tony O’Reilly’s newspaper empire, Duncan went on to form his own publishing group, specialising in quality regional magazine titles. With effective advertising and sponsorship, The FOODologist is already a key player in the competitive world of  fine wine and dining magazines.

The Foodologist is different from other food and drink magazines. As well as looking at all aspects of good dining, we also offer fascinating insights into:
Health and beauty – Amanda Haley, our Beauty, Health and Fashion Editor, explores the use of foods, herbs, and spices in the health and beauty sectors. For instance, few people will be aware that the widely acclaimed spice Star Anise is one of the main ingredients of Tamiflu.
Food in art – Thor Haley, our Art Director, makes some stunning photographic contributions and explores other aspects of food in art and vice versa. He also works closely with our illustrator, Lorna Apps-Woodland.
Garden design– The Foodologist has its own resident gardener, Stuart Scott. He will be looking at the modern ‘kitchen garden’ and what, how and when to grow in it. Stuart specialises in ‘Outside Rooms’.
Dine with fine wine – The Foodologist’s resident chef, Adam Byatt, is an up and coming celebrity chef/restaurateur. He is the proprietor of the AA Restaurant of the Year – Trinity, at the Polygon, Clapham Old Town, London. Adam has frequently appeared on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen. His new cookery book, ‘How to Eat In’, will be available in leading bookshops from April. We will be offering our readers a chance to win a place at one of his Masterclasses at Trinity, plus a signed copy of his new book.
Wine expert – We will also have a regular wine reviews and cellar advice from Philip Portal of Portal Dingwall and Norris, a family business based in Emsworth, Sussex. This is listed as one of Country Life’s best independent wine merchants in the UK.
And there’s more… Simon Scutt is the Content Editor of The Foodologist. He ‘is’ Marina Jaks, a leading south coast quayside restaurant which is listed in Britain’s Finest Guide. Simon’s previous experience includes supplying fish and shellfish to some of the top restaurants in the UK. His connections with south coast fishermen boosted his reputation for sourcing and supplying the finest quality products. He has supplied live fish to John Tirode’s (BBC’s MasterChef) Smiths of Smithfield – a completely new experience for chefs in London. Simon’s family a fine history of cooking. His late grandfather was one of the ‘Brigade de Cuisine of Chefs’ of the great Escoffier at the Carlton Hotel in London. His grandmother was also a chief cook to one of the lesser royal households. The Foodologist will reveal some of her secret recipes in the future…
